Useful, yet neither perfect, nor cheap...

The kit comes with three pieces: a neck strap, "leather" case, and the battery.

The case seems to be a fairly sturdy cardboard box covered with some leather-resembling material. The camera is a snug fit, although there is room for a second SD card if you need to carry one with you. The case fits nicely onto the belt and perfectly meets my needs. I bought the SD Digital Elph due to its form factor so that I'll be able to carry it with me all the time. Having it on my belt, with less than 5 seconds from opening the case to taking the picture, this definitely meets my needs. I would not like to carry it around in my shirt pocket or pants pocket. The magnetic snap closes and opens easily. While I do have scratches on my LCD, I doubt that they come from the case. The case flap also has a cutout to accomodate the wrist-strap loop - a "feature" that you might not get with generic cases.

The battery obviously is the convincing "argument" for buying this kit, although I have to say that even on a recent 1 week trip to DC and VA, I did not need my 2nd battery. It seems that the battery life is pretty good to begin with. And the charge time is just a few hours, so with a little planning ahead I could probably do without the 2nd battery.

The neck strap is pretty useless, as others have pointed out.

So would I buy this kit again? I guess so; another way to do the math is to say I got the 2nd battery for $30 (if I had paid $20 for the case alone). My recommendation is to try out the battery life for yourself for a few months before buying a backup battery. As for the case you need to decide whether you want the camera in your pocket or on your belt.

The case is crap

I thought I was getting a good deal with buying all these items together. I was expecting the case that I got for my SD110 which was quite nice. The case is cheap cheap cheap - Made in China crap. The leather is one step above plastic. The snap to close it scratches the camera. It is basically terrible. The neck strap is a cheapie throw in as well. Just get the battery individually and get another case. This is not worth it. I am so disappointed. It spoilt the enjoyment of getting my new SD300.

Not a great deal

I got this for $49.99 (right before the price went up). At the time, it was like paying for a battery, which I needed, and then getting the case and strap for $5.00. What the heck, I gave it a try.

At the current price, I wouldn't recommend this. The case is a tight fit, and has a rough fabric lining. I'm already having problems with brassing on the metal and scratching of the LCD screen (I did later cover the screen with a stick-on Palm Pilot protector. That helped.) I put the camera in the case once, and decided that it would only contribute to wear as I put it in and pull it out. I'm much happier with a generic $10 case I found in a photo store. The strap, well, I doubt I'd use that, since the camera is too fragile to hang from your neck. I love my digital elph SD300, but the lense flaps are pretty flimsy and won't protect the glass if you bump into something.
